Armstrong Teasdale is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join its New York office. The specialist is responsible for the accurate and efficient preparation and collection of bills and invoices. Additionally, the specialist will assist in basic cash functions and Account Payable preparation/assistance.  The ideal candidate is professional in demeanor, analytical in thinking, able to work as team with attorneys and staff, and understands the importance of upholding client confidentiality. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are required for success in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for new client intake and maintenance
  • Responsible for the processing of client bills using Pre-bill Viewer and paper bills via Aderant software
  • Oversees the electronic submission of client invoices and accruals via various e-billing websites
  • Encompasses the ability to research and answer accounting and billing questions
  • Reviews and edits pre-bills in response to attorney and secretary requests
  • Executes, handles and processes a high volume of complex bills
  • Evaluates and verifies accuracy of billing and supporting documentation as required
  • Assists with daily bank deposits ensuring checks are placed in the proper bank account
  • Oversees inventory of all checks, both written and unwritten
  • Tracks and documents any checks given to attorneys for closings
  • Assists with proper coding and delivery to the Account Payable Department of client and overhead invoices
  • Undertakes special projects and ad hoc reports for manager as needed/requested
  • Participates in appropriate mandatory training as necessary
  • Performs other tasks and duties as required

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Proficiency with MS-Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Flexibility of overtime required
  • Three (3) years minimum of progressive experience as a Biller in a law firm environment
  • Collection experience is preferred
  • Aderant software experience preferred
  • Accounting degree or successful completion of basic financial accounting classes preferred
